MBI5040 is a 16-channel constant current LED driver with selectable 16-/12-bit gray scale control and 8-bit dot correction. MBI5040 provides constant current ranging from 2mA to 60mA for each output channel. The output current can be set by an external resistor. MBI5040 adopts Share-I-O™ technology to be backward compatible with MBI5026 and MBI5030 in package and to extend the functionality, such as in-message error detection, compulsory error detection, thermal protection, and current gain control in LED display systems. With Scrambled-PWM (S-PWM) technology, MBI5040 enhances pulse width modulation by scrambling the “on” time into several “on” periods, so that MBI5040 is able to increase visual refresh rate and reduce flickers. In addition, MBI5040 provides 16-bit gray scale control to enrich the color of image, allowing to present video images with 65,536 gray scales. MBI5040 also provides 8-bit dot correction to individually calibrate the deviated brightness and color of LEDs. Moreover, the preset current of MBI5040 can be further adjusted by 128 steps for LED global brightness adjustment. With in-message error detection, MBI5040 can detect individual LED for both open- and short-circuit errors on-the-fly without extra components. The MBI6651 is a high efficiency, constant current and step-down DC/DC converter. It is designed to deliver constant current to light up high power LED with only 4 external components. With hysteretic PFM control scheme, MBI6651 improves the efficiency of light loading. The output current of MBI6651 can be programmed by an external resistor and LED dimming can be controlled via pulse width modulation (PWM) through DIM pin. In addition, the start-up function limits the inrush current while the power is switch on. The MBI6651 also features under voltage lock out (UVLO), over temperature protection, LED open -circuited protection and LED short -circuited protection to protect IC from being damaged. Additionally, to ensure the system reliability, the MBI6651 builds thermal protection (TP) function inside. This function protects IC from overheating (165°C) in various application conditions. MBI5030 is designed for LED video applications using internal Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control with selectable 16-bit or 12-bit gray scales. MBI5030 features a 16-bit shift register which converts serial input data into each pixel gray scale of output port. At MBI5030 output port, sixteen regulated current ports are designed to provide uniform and constant current sinks for driving LEDs with a wide range of Vf variations. The output current can be preset through an external resistor. Moreover, the preset current of MBI5030 can be further programmed up or down to 128 gain steps for LED global brightness adjustment. With Scrambled-PWM (S-PWM) technology, MBI5030 enhances Pulse Width Modulation by scrambling the “on” time into several “on” periods. The enhancement equivalently increases the visual refresh rate. When building a 16-bit gray scale video, S-PWM reduces the flickers and improves the fidelity. MBI5030 offloads the signal timing generation of the host controller which just needs to feed data into drivers. MBI5030 drives the corresponding LEDs to the brightness specified by image data. With MBI5030, all output channels can be built with 16-bit color depths (65,536 gray scales). Each LED’s brightness can be calibrated enough from minimum to maximum brightness with compensated gamma correction or LED deviation information inside the 16-bit image data. ...more
